Our verdict

Descript is an editor first: transcribe a recording, then cut it by deleting words, remove filler, clone your voice for fixes and spin out clips. For podcasts and talking-head videos it saves hours. It doesn't generate videos from scratch like invideo or Synthesia.

Pros

  • Edit video like a doc
  • Excellent podcast/audio tools
  • AI voice, clips and overdub

Cons

  • Not a prompt-to-video generator
  • AI credits limited per plan

Descript pricing

  • Free
  • Hobbyist $24/mo ($16/mo annual)
  • Creator $35/mo ($24/mo annual)
  • Business higher

Free tier: Yes: free plan
